The charts behind the numbers

Jobsite

OSHA minimum and the industry standard

The legal floor is OSHA Table D-1, 29 CFR 1926.51(c): one facility for 20 or fewer workers, then one toilet seat and one urinal per 40 workers, and per 50 at 200 or more. The working number is ANSI/PSAI Z4.3: one weekly-serviced unit per 10 workers per 8-hour shift. The result always includes a hand wash station: OSHA requires one near work with paints, coatings or other contaminants, Cal/OSHA on every California site, and most contractors expect one anyway. Hand washing requirements.

Event

The PSAI event chart

Built on one restroom visit per person every four hours, no pumping during the event and an even mix of men and women. Between two rows the calculator uses the higher one. Alcohol adds 10 to 20 percent, public events need at least five percent ADA units, and hand wash stations follow PSAI's one per 10 toilets. How many porta potties do I need.
